Liverpool Vows Not to Change Offensive Approach In the Face of Recent Slump, Insists Slot
Arne Slot has stated that the team leadership agree with his assessment regarding the poor performance streak and he refuses to compromise their offensive approach in search of a turnaround. The head coach conceded that six unsuccessful results in seven matches was below standard ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
Growing Expectations During Tough Spell
The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his rotated squad suffered Carabao Cup elimination against Crystal Palace. However, he emphasized that this need to reverse the decline is not coming from the club's ownership or football administration following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.
"We share common perspectives," remarked the Liverpool boss, whose squad will encounter Los Blancos in the Champions League and visit the Citizens in the Premier League.
Player Depth Remains Undoubted
Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are completely available and all ready for the fixture list". He noted that the summer investment in talents including the German international and the Swedish striker, who is expected to be sidelined again against Villa through injury, had left the club "in such a good place for the short-term future and the long-term future".
Integration Challenges
When questioned about why his team were having difficulty blending, he replied: "That question isn't constructive. 'Why, why, why?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can come up with five or six reasons why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I say every time, there are insufficient justifications to have a results sequence as we had now."
- Regardless of whether I could come up with numerous reasons
- When you are Liverpool you should not suffer defeats
- In truth six defeats in seven games
Defensive Statistics
Only Burnley (twenty-one) have faced more big chances from open play this season than the Merseysiders (19). The league leaders, Arsenal, have conceded only two. Yet Liverpool's coach rejects the defense has been too vulnerable and asserts there is no basis to abandon offensive philosophy for a defensive approach after 10 games without a goalless performance.
"From my perspective we don't giving up numerous openings so I see no justification to modify our philosophy completely but we have to enhance in not conceding goals," he declared.
Particular Cases
"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were 3-1 up, we barely allowed a shot on target. In all the games we have competed in we haven't allowed a many opportunities. Definitely not. We do give away a bit more than the previous campaign but that stems from us being 1-0 down so you play more openly. But in general I don't think that our challenge is that we give up too many openings. Our issue is we fail to convert the openings we produce."
