Air Travel Restarts at Scotland's Busiest Airport After Significant ATC System Failure

A systems problem at Edinburgh's air traffic control meant no aircraft could enter or leave the airport.

Air travel have resumed at Scotland's primary international airport following a significant ATC system failure grounded all flights.

All aircraft movements were halted after an IT issue that arose around 08:30.

Some passengers found themselves stranded in aircraft on the tarmac during the disruption.

Operations Restart with Continued Disruption

A statement indicated at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "patience and understanding".

However, ongoing issues are likely to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with numerous other services subject to postponements.

An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be disrupted.

"Passengers are advised to check directly with their airline for the latest information on their specific flights," the statement added.

Source of the Issue

Officials linked the full ground stop to an IT issue with its air traffic control provider.

Flyers should still plan to verify the schedule of their journey before traveling to the hub as residual delays are worked through.
