Accused Harasser Questioned: 'But What If I Could Be Madeleine?'
A female indicted with harassing Kate McCann apparently recorded her a recorded message which posed: "imagine I am Madeleine?"
The defendant, 24, who a jury heard has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial accused with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.
On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and information recovered from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently requesting Madeleine's mother for a genetic test during the past two years.
Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a family holiday in Portugal - is among the most covered investigations and remains unresolved.
'I Do Not Need Money'
A separate recorded message, shared in court, recorded Ms Wandelt stating: "I know I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine had been, but I know what I believe."
While another instance of Ms Wandelt's monologues with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a small chance that I am she? What happens next? Is that not important for you?"
"I don't want money, I maintain a life here in Poland, I only wish to discover," she added.
The tribunal was told that through emails, SMS messages and communications, Ms Wandelt requested a genetic test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a attempt to demonstrate a similarity to Mrs McCann's vanished daughter, and claimed to have "memories" from a childhood with the McCanns.
An intelligence analyst, an intelligence analyst with Leicestershire Police who collated the evidence, told the court there "seemed to lack any replies" from Mrs McCann.
Ms Wandelt also contacted acquaintances of the McCanns, according to the phone records.
On October 9th, 2024, the father picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "incorrect contact information."
That day Ms Wandelt left a voicemail on Mrs McCann's answerphone saying "I won't give up and I plan to establish my claim."
The court was informed Mrs Spragg developed a connection via internet with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' property in that area in last December.
Phone records demonstrated Mrs Spragg had communicated through WhatsApp to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "emotionally disturbed" but that she deserved to be taken seriously in the months preceding the trip to the village, Leicestershire, in that winter.
The court learned message exchanges between the two individuals, in that autumn, considering endeavoring to obtain Mrs McCann's genetic material from her garbage or from silverware at a dining venue.
"We have to make a stand," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.
On the evening of the visit to their home, the defendant transmitted a message which said: "We're currently positioned near the McCanns' residence with our lights out similar to investigators. I wanted to do this with Peter Andrew I didn't imagine I would be engaged in this with the McCanns."
The case ongoing.
